Achdiocese of Washington Financial Aid Application

In order to assist parents in making the difficult decision regarding the education of their children, St. John the Evangelist School offers the following procedures and policies in admission of their children.
After a special mass that begins Catholic Schools Week, usually the last Sunday in January, an Open House is scheduled. During the Open House, student ambassadors conduct tours and answer questions regarding the school. School Board Members and faculty members assist these ambassadors. Visitors are afforded a glimpse into the school’s learning environment, share our spirit and learn of our philosophy.
New families are invited during the Open House to make Application should they feel that St. John’s School answers the academic and Christian environment that they want for their child. The Development Director along with School Board members is available to process Applications at this time.
During Open House and during the course of the school year, the following are the procedures in making application to St. John’s School:

Request an Application Packet from the Development Office.
The Application along with the applicable fee must be returned to the Development Office in order to obtain an interview appointment with the principal, Development Director and a tour of the school.
During the interview, the child must accompany the parent(s). The parents are responsible for bringing to the interview past report cards, standardized test scores and any pertinent academic information.
Since St. John the Evangelist School is a parish school, parents are required to schedule an appointment with the Pastor after the interview appointment.
An appointment is made with the child to spend the day in school with his/her perspective class, with the exception of Kindergarten. Spending the day with the class provides the teacher an opportunity to observe the child in a classroom setting. Following the visit, the teacher gives a report to the principal. All information is reviewed and consideration given to the best interest of the child.
Being a parish school, priority is given to those families who already have children in attendance and supportive parishioners of St. John’s Parish. Consideration is then given to families of alumni and practicing, contributing and active Catholics. After positions have been filled based on these criteria, the remaining applications are considered on an equal basis.

New families are notified of admittance after current families have been re-registered. Meaning, should space be available in specific grades after current family re-registration, new parents are notified of acceptance. Other families, for which a grade is full, are placed on an active waiting list.

Additional information or questions should be addressed to MaryJane Fratantuono-Harris, Development Director at development.office@adwschool.org.
